Animals

We Need Them.

If everyone were vegetarian there would be no cows standing in the pasture. There would be no chickens, no goats—just the two in the zoo. Animals are meant to live in a symbiotic relationship along side us—they for us and we for them. Separating our animals from our lives has made us malnourished, lonely and isolated.

So I'm not a vegetarian, but I do believe we need less meat. As humans, meat gives us power and energy. But most of us don't need that much power or energy. We spend so much of our time sitting down, thinking, driving, working, watching, etc. So, meat should be a delicacy; revered and sacred, Either wild or home grown or at least come from our communities and local farms. (And never mass produced.)

Yes, I know. We should all be so lucky as to be able to live up to these high ideals. But really, can't we take it back? There is so much wasted space in the city. Acres and acres of grass between the rows and rows of lifeless buildings. Boxes upon boxes of lonely, isolated people. Wouldn't it be great to have a little community farm in the middle? Couldn't you just see the little old men, coming out of thier condos to chat with each other over the condition of the goats in utero? Or the love that blossoms between the stay-at-home writer and the company computer man, that both slowed down to watch the rue between the hens?

I know I'm crazy. But I say let's bring the animals back to the city, one chicken at a time!

Not Everyone Should Have Animals

Most people think they don't have the time and they are too messy. And that's true. They take a lot of love and care.

But many people have never had the opportunity to know animals. These people could still join the movement by offering to help their neighbors with their animals. This gives them a chance to get to know an animal (and their neighbor) without the commitment, but some of the benefits...(Like, something to do and somewhere to be, outside. They listen really well. When one of them dies, it breaks your heart and lets you cry over things, loves, losses you've never cried over before. They can make you laugh, just when you need it most...)

Caring for Animals

All domesticated animals must be fed and watered at least once a day, They should be cared for and checked on twice a day, every day. If you want to get an animal you have to commit to this. When you can't do it, you have to find someone who will.

Animals can be our pets, our friends, and our food. But the only way we can treat them as food, is if we love our food. The highest energy food is food either raised absolutely free or raised with love.
